![]() You also need to shuffle 3 decks of 30 small cards, and randomly select a few more. To go into detail, solo setup requires you shuffle about 6 decks of large cards, ranging from 7 to 26 cards. I've never had to go searching around the box for a specific token, for example. That said, the box is very well designed, with labelled cubbies for each token type and cards, which helps setup go smoothly. You know, those FFG games with a ton of decks and tokens. ![]() It feels about the same as something like Arkham Horror 3rd edition or Fallout. Nemesis has moderate setup, in my opinion, though of course what that means depends on the player. There is also a great scripted version of the game you can play on TTS to get some experience,įirst of all, I have never played Nemesis solo, so I don't know how helpful I am, but I can try. Do some research and pick whichever one speaks to you most, if you like this style of game I don't think you can go wrong. The core mechanics are the same in both, what differs is the theme, characters, alien race, and special mechanics unique to the ship or the base. My best advice is to watch some gameplay previews of both (Lockdown preview videos are linked on the KS page), and some reviews of the base game. While I can understand why the game is not to everyone's tastes, every game I've played has been a blast.ĮDIT: A lot of people are asking if they should get the base game or Lockdown. Some people are turned off by the RNG in the game, or the adversarial secret objectives, or the perma-death, but personally every game of Nemesis has left me with a great story, some of narrow survival or defeat, some of blindingly good luck saving someone who should have been dead in ten different ways, and some of treachery that is talked about games later. I have also been unable to find a copy of the base game locally, as great as the TTS mod is I'm happy to have an avenue to get a physical copy. I love the first game and am excited to see more of Lockdown. The game has a new board and new mechanics such as an elevator to move between floors of the base, a power system that may leave areas of the base non-functional (and especially deadly), and a Red Alert procedure that when activated has an effect that will be unknown to the survivors. Nemesis Lockdown is a standalone expansion set on a secret Martian base, also overrun with a new alien threat. The Nemesis core game is a sci-fi horror in the vein of Alien, with crew members abruptly awaken from hibernation to find their ship overrun by an alien menace, and to complicate things each of the crew have their own goals, some of which may be deadly to the rest.
